Although the study does not show cause and effect, the results highlight a possible link between excessive alcohol consumption and weakened immunity to HPV, said study author Matthew Schabath. Even moderate drinking can affect your protection against the immediate effects of the infection and hinder your ability to develop immunity. This can make you vulnerable to bugs such as colds-flu and yes even HPV.

Most guys will get HPV at some point in their lives. As per research in Lancet fifty percent of men studied over a mean follow-up of just over 2 years tested positive for certain types of HPV.

Usually you do not even know you have STD. But some strains of the virus can cause genital warts while others may increase your risk of cancers of the anus-penis or mouth and throat. In addition you can pass the infection to your partner.

Because HPV is spread through skin-to-skin, the use of a condom can reduce your risk of getting, but it does not fully prevent. This is why you should consider the vaccine against HPV, which can protect against future infections. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the vaccine for straight guys to 21 and for men who have sex with men in 26 years. Note: The increased risk is shown in this study based on a calculation known as the ratio of the frequency. This compares the likelihood of something occurring in the experimental group in this case people who drank the most compared to the control group those who drank the least. For example thirty-five percent of men who drank the most were infected with potentially cancer-causing strains of HPV compared to 23 percent of those who drank the least. This results in an increased risk of 35 percent after adjusting for factors statistically as age-smoking and number of sexual partners.
